those of a certain vintage may have a soft spot for global underground s after hours series, which promised to soundtrack -the party after the club- by joining the dots between woozy progressive house, deep techno, electronica and, of course, ambient. some eight years after the last installment, the long-running club brand has decided to re-launch the series. apparently, this latest installment took a year to put together, and featured tweaked, edited and gently reworked tunes layered up for a more enjoyable listening experience. musically, it sticks to similar territory to previous installments, updating the sound a little via tracks and remixes from ewan pearson, lawrence, scuba, matrixxman, michael mayer and joris voorn.

the last 12 months have been a boon for fans of luke vibert, with the veteran cornishman delivering a killer acid album for hypercolour, and a slick, melodious set of disco-inspired jams under his kerrier district alias. here he returns to regular home planet mu with another typically entertaining set inspired by classic british electronic music. utilising his battery of vintage music-making machines, vibert giddily doffs a cap to early 90s intelligent techno, rave-era hardcore, bleep, chicago acid and braindance, occasionally veering off track via easy listening inspired future jazz, wagon christ style hip-hop head-nodders (the title track, which doffs a cap to a forgotten, mid-90s remix he did for ninja tune) and squidgy, synth-propelled mutant electrofunk.

the light fantastic is a dancefloor orientated club album with a range of influences like Ð deep house, vintage synthesizers, classic boogie, disco, chicago jack, acid house, and even a dash of full-throttle rave revivalism.

vintage voltage from the nfls first man in munich. infectious >sam spence sounds< from this kuckuck stalwart. the latest release on the germanic minor off-shoot. born in san francisco in 1927 samuel lloyd spence is a peculiar piece in the komplicated krautrock puzzle. as an american ex-pat working in a community of german rock musicians in the early 70s, spence shared his alien status with the likes of david johnson and malcolm mooney (can), carole muriel (brainticket) maria archer (embryo) bill barone (wallenstein) and the band sweet smoke.

originally created in 1994, christian smiths tronic label holds a special place in techno circles. with the momentum of his recent successes behind him and the strength of fresh inspiration driving his ambition forward, 2010 promises to be a vintage year for the new, super-charged christian smith. having recently made his second appearance on bbc radio 1s essential mix, spring 2010 will see christian embark on a world tour to accompany his soon to be released debut solo album >directors cut<.
